It’s Time You Got Started

It is the beginning of the new year and the perfect time to get your affairs in order.  If you are like many of us you keep putting it off but the advantages of having a proper will or trust and powers of attorney are many which you already know.  A sense of control, security and peace of mind can be yours and what you deserve.  Your family will thank you for it later.

So just how do you do this…….

Carve out some time and even put it on the calendar along with your tax preparation.  Become mentally prepared, take a long walk and think it through or discuss with your spouse or heirs or keep it to yourself if you are not ready to share your plans.  There are lots of options for wills and trusts although it is always recommended that you work with a trusted attorney.  And don’t forget the power of attorney forms you will want too.

So schedule it in and give yourself some time, the feelings of control and accomplishment are worth the time, effort and energy it will take to complete the tasks.

And then you will want to subscribe to where you can list the details of your messy but wonderful life.

What will happen to you or your family in case of your disability, a disaster or even your death?

Who owes you money?

Who gets your frequent flier miles?

What about the family jewels and the Christmas ornaments?

When you are done it will be time to reward yourself, how about a nice dinner out, a gym membership or that toy you have been wanting. You deserve no less.

Hope for the best but plan for the worst!
