Share the stories and wisdom of your unique life with your loved ones.

We all have an innate wish to be known and remembered.  Telling your story is a great way to make that happen. A legacy message, whether it’s actually written or captured on video, is a loving way to share your interesting and unique life. Share your insights, spectacular successes, heartbreaking failures, funny episodes, or whatever you find valuable. It’s also a perfect time to express gratitude or forgiveness. 

Why bother creating a personal legacy message? It gives you a chance to ponder and pass along your most cherished values and your earned wisdom. It’s an opportunity to nurture and inspire future generations. It might acknowledge your past and the generations before you.

You have a lot to tell and there is no time like the present to get started.  You might begin with the simple act of writing a letter to someone specific. Add to your legacy letter a few lines a day until you are satisfied that you have conveyed a sense of the life and times you have been blessed to have, celebrates your life and defines your place in the world or in the lives of others. Consider it a work in progress and pick it up and add to it once in a while.

Consider and decide who needs to see your legacy letter and how you’ll leave it behind. If written, you can leave a printed copy with your will and important documents.  If video, you can choose to upload it directly to your Will and a Way account.  

So start thinking about this opportunity for self-examination and growth.  Who knows, you might even learn a little something about yourself!  And as C.S. Lewis famously said, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
